About the Book

Lost Village

Coming Soon

A pair of brutal murders shatters the uneasy peace of the tiny town of Conawalki, Ontario, threatening to rip the community apart. For years, the residents have struggled to rebuild their lives and their community’s identity after the town was uprooted and moved in the late 1950s to make way for the St. Lawrence Seaway. Now, as shocking secrets begin to surface, it becomes clear that Conawalki is more than just a town in search of an identity; it’s a place built on hidden truths and unspoken fears.

At the heart of the turmoil are the “Three Smart Boys”—Mark, Seb, and Flix—teenage friends and bandmates navigating their own identity crisis. As they chase their dreams and grapple with the town’s unraveling mysteries, they become entangled in a web of murder, blackmail, betrayal, and a brush with death that will change them forever.

In a town where the past refuses to stay buried, the boys must uncover who they really are before the deception that blankets their community like a looming shadow destroys everything they hold dear.

What readers are saying

“an eerie mystery novel in which a town’s citizens contend with a murderer in their midst.  ...themes of identity are explored with depth – a sturdy thread amid the entertaining tempo of the storytelling.”

— Foreword Clarion Reviews, 4 out of 5 stars

"A coming-of-age story and a love story, wrapped in a thriller and set in a striking piece of Canadian history. Michael Saver takes us to small-town Ontario where his gift for the specific brings it vividly to life--and makes it universal. "

— Douglas Tindal, award-winning journalist, playwright, author of Tales From Wine On The Porch.

"Buried beneath a murder mystery, Michael Saver skillfully unearths the intimidation and violence that traditional masculinity can wreak on communities, families, and individuals who are considered different. All within the backdrop of a manufactured landscape like the St. Lawrence Seaway, and the unsettling of local villages."

—Brian Braganza, Canadian composer and essayist exploring his own disconnections as a racialized person growing up in the 1970s along the St. Lawrence River. He works to disrupt the limitations of traditional masculinity so men can strive to live more of their whole selves.
